Monday morning and the start of new week that looking at the diary promises to encapsulate how this job changes your life.

Meeting my constituency MP today, our London dinner tomorrow my second big formal speech, members services group meeting Wednesday and judging the pet plan awards Thursday.
So lots of politics, masses of reading, speaking to large groups and being reminded of the remarkable work vets do unsung every day of the week from London to the Hebrides.

Last week I was guest speaker at the north of England veterinary Association AGM. An association celebrating 150 years this year, active in CPD provision, well supported and really contributing to ÂÜÀòÊÓƵ activity through northern regional rep Douglas Palmer winner of the Bleby cup for outstanding contributions to ÂÜÀòÊÓƵ council meetings.

Not really a formal speech but relaxed talk and debate on the issues we are currently faced with. An event tinged with sadness for me as my region Lancashire and Cheshire no longer has an active veterinary association.

We talked about the proposed RCVS charter and I was able to outline my recent RCVS legislation working part meeting at the college when RCVS councillors and staff were really receptive to concerns ÂÜÀòÊÓƵ had expressed in its submission. At this meeting, through a really constructive debate chaired by chair Prof Steve May there was genuine desire to get the best result for the Profession, for nurses and for a strong representative organisation in the future.

At NEVA we also talked about corporatisation of the profession, increased graduate output, 24/7 cover, bovine TB and more, it is clear everyone has something to contribute to these debates so get on the forum and let's hear it.
